"كنت في زيارة لعدد من دول منطقة الشرق الأوسط في عام 1989م بصحبة شقيقتي الكبرى، وأثناء وجودي بدولة البحرين تبادلت الحديث مع بعض الأطفال من سكان العاصمة المنامة، وكان من جملة أسئلتهم البريئة سؤال عن ديني، فأجبتهم بأنني مسيحي، وسألتهم بدوري عن دينهم، فأجابوني بصوت واحد أن دينهم الإسلام، وكانوا فخورين جدًّا بالانتماء لهذا الدين، وانطلقوا في الحديث عنه. وسألتهم أكثر عنه، وصار كل واحد منهم يحدثني عن الإسلام بطريقة أدهشتني؛ فقد كان هؤلاء الأطفال الذين أحببتهم فخورين جدًّا بدينهم، ويتحدثون عنه بسعادة غامرة".
ويكمل جاكسون قائلاً:
"بعد عودتي من البحرين والحديث مع أولئك الأطفال عن الإسلام، شعرت بأنني سوف أصبح مسلمًا. وتحدثت مع صديق لي اسمه عليٌّ عن هذا الشعور الذي بدأ ينتابني منذ فترة، وأفصحت له عن رغبتي في تعلُّم المزيد عن الإسلام.
وسافرت مع عليٍّ إلى المملكة العربية السعودية لأتعرف على الإسلام أكثر وأكثر، وهناك أعلنت إسلامي، وشعرت بأنني ولدت من جديد بحق وحقيقة".
ويقول: "كانت لديَّ العديد من الأسئلة الحائرة التي أبحث لها عن إجابات، خاصَّةً الأسئلة المتعلقة بالمسيحية وعيسى عليه السلام، فوجدت إجابات جاهزة ومقنعة لكل هذه الأسئلة لحظة اعتناقي الإسلام.
وقد كنت في حيرة من أمري كمسيحي؛ إذ كان يحيرني دائمًا أن الإنجيل مكتوب على أيدي أشخاص عاديين. وكان دائمًا يخطر ببالي أن هؤلاء بشر، فكل واحد منهم سيراعي نفسه ومجموعته فيما يكتب، بينما القرآن كتاب الله حفظه الله على مَرِّ السنين والأجيال.
وفي السعودية وجدت أشرطة جميلة جدًّا للمغني البريطاني السابق والداعية الإسلامي يوسف إسلام، وفيها مناظرة حول الإسلام والمسيحية ومنها تعلَّمت الكثير".
أمَّا عن صدى إسلامه وسط أخوته، فيقول جيرمين: "كان قراري باعتناق الإسلام قرارًا مفاجئًا لكل أفراد أسرتي، ولذلك اندهشوا لقراري؛ وذلك بسبب ما يسمعونه عن الإسلام والمسلمين من وسائل الإعلام المختلفة، منها مثلاً ما يسمعونه عن تعدد الزوجات، فالأميركيون لا يفهمون أبدًا الحكمة من إباحة تعدد الزوجات، بالرغم من أن الخيانة الزوجية منتشرة في المجتمع الأميركي، بينما يبيح لك الإسلام - ما دمت قادرًا على الإنفاق - الزواج من أكثر من واحدة بدلاً من مشاكل الطلاق والخيانة الزوجية".
وأضاف جيرمين: "إن المسلمين في العالم العربي محبون لزوجاتهم وأطفالهم، والمرأة عندهم معزَّزة مُكرَّمة، ولكنَّ كثيرًا من الأميركيين لا يفهمون هذا، ولقد أُعجبت كثيرًا بأسلوب التربية في المجتمعات الإسلامية".
